At The Top Tree Service Corp removes trees of every size across Suffolk County from our yard at 917 Montauk Highway in Shirley. Dead oaks over a roof, pines leaning toward the neighbor's pool, a maple whose roots are lifting the driveway, a whole row of overgrown Leylands along a property line: the job is the same each time. Make it safe, take it down in pieces, clean up so you can't tell we were there except that the tree is gone.

What It Costs
Price depends on the tree's height and spread, how close it is to structures and wires, access for equipment, and whether the stump is included. Small trees in open yards start in the low hundreds; large trees over a house that have to come down piece by piece can run into the thousands. We'll give you an exact number on site, free, and it won't change unless you change the job.
How It Works
- Estimate on site. We look at the tree, what's under it, and how we'll get equipment in. You get a written price for the whole job, including cleanup and the stump if you want it ground.
- Set up and protect. Plywood on the lawn where the truck sits, tarps over plantings, the house and wires accounted for in the rigging plan.
- Take it down in sections. A climber or our 75-foot bucket truck works the tree from the top down; big wood comes out with the log loader instead of being dropped. Pieces are roped down over anything that matters: roof, pool, fence, your neighbor's fence.
- Chip, haul, rake. Brush is chipped on site, wood is hauled (or cut to length and left for your firewood if you want it), and the lawn is raked and blown.
- Stump. Ground below grade the same day or on a return trip, so the spot can be seeded or planted.
When a tree should come down
If you're not sure, say so when you call. Plenty of trees that look bad can be saved with pruning or cabling, and we'd rather tell you that than remove a healthy tree.
Permits
We're permitted to work throughout Suffolk County. Most towns don't require a permit to remove a tree on private residential property, but some villages and the Central Pine Barrens do, and protected trees exist. We know the local rules and we'll tell you if a permit applies to your job before any work starts.

Common Questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Suffolk County?
Usually not on private residential property, but some villages and the Pine Barrens area require one and certain trees are protected. We'll tell you at the estimate whether yours needs one.
Is the stump included?
It's a line on the written estimate, so you choose. Most people have us grind it the same day; if you'd rather leave it, the price reflects that.
How long does a removal take?
Most single trees are down and cleaned up in half a day. Large trees over a house, or several trees, can take a full day; we tell you at the estimate.
What happens to the wood?
Brush is chipped on site and hauled. Logs are hauled away, or cut to length and left stacked if you want firewood; just say so when we quote.
